BACTERIAL SKIN AND SOFT TISSUE INFECTIONS: ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE PATTERNS IN LOCAL CLINICAL PRACTICE

Abstract

Bacterial skin and soft tissue infections (SSTIs) are a significant reason for outpatient consultations and antibiotic prescriptions globally. The increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistance has challenged empirical treatment options, especially in regional clinical environments with little surveillance data. This study sought to examine bacterial causes and antibiotic resistance trends in individuals with SSTIs in local clinical settings. A retrospective observational study was performed at the Radeski Skin & Aesthetic Clinic in the Fergana Valley, Uzbekistan. Clinical specimens from patients with purulent and non-purulent skin and soft tissue infections were cultured, and antimicrobial susceptibility testing was conducted following normal laboratory techniques. The most often isolated pathogens comprised Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Gram-negative bacteria including Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Elevated resistance rates were detected for frequently administered antibiotics, such as penicillins and macrolides, although susceptibility remained generally intact for glycopeptides and some fluoroquinolones.
