Abstract

Curriculum integration and assessment reform are central pillars of contemporary medical education reform. Traditional discipline-based curricula and high-stakes summative examinations are increasingly challenged by integrated, outcomes-oriented, and programmatic approaches aligned with real clinical practice. This review synthesizes recent evidence (2020–2025) on horizontal and vertical curriculum integration, integrated assessment strategies, and programmatic assessment models in undergraduate medical education. Current literature demonstrates that integrated curricula improve knowledge coherence, clinical reasoning, and learner engagement, while modern assessment systems enhance feedback quality, competency tracking, and educational decision-making. Persistent challenges include faculty workload, standard setting, and institutional readiness. This review provides an evidence-based overview to guide educators and academic leaders in designing sustainable, learner-centered medical education systems.
