INNOVATIVE METHODS OF TEACHING MEDICAL STUDENTS: A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW

Medical education is undergoing rapid transformation driven by technological innovation, evolving healthcare systems, and changing learner expectations. Traditional didactic models are increasingly supplemented—or replaced—by learner-centered, technology-enhanced, and competency-based approaches. This review synthesizes contemporary evidence (2020–2025) on innovative methods of teaching medical students, focusing on simulation-based education, problem- and team-based learning, digital and AI-assisted tools, virtual and augmented reality, and competency-based medical education frameworks. Recent empirical studies and systematic reviews demonstrate that these approaches improve clinical reasoning, knowledge retention, procedural competence, and professional skills when appropriately integrated into curricula. The review highlights implementation strategies, educational outcomes, and challenges, and proposes future directions for sustainable, evidence-based innovation in undergraduate medical education.
